Getting AAVA CE Updates Automatically
For people who don’t want to download and install software, an interesting way to automatically receive notices about AAVA approved continuing education courses and offerings is to use a website that can keep track of such “news feeds” as we use for listing our CE information. This method can be nice if you want to be able to review several sites that distribute news articles by RSS (recognized by displaying a
icon. The icon usually links to the page that is used by the software that keeps track of the news. You could use a website that keeps track of news generating sites as well as other things like weather, stocks, airfares, etc., as your homepage so that when you first open your internet browser, you will see all the latest news from all your favorite news sites without having to go to each site.
If this sounds like a method you would like to try, and you have a Yahoo account, use this link to add new notices into your My Yahoo Homepage:
And use this link to add updated information into your My Yahoo Homepage:
If you have a Google account, log into the Personalized Google Homepage ( http://www.google.com/ig ) and follow instructions to Create a Section in the instructions:

Just use http://www.aava.org/php/aava_blog/wp-rss2.php for receiving all new announcements and http://www.aava.org/php/aava_blog/?feed=comments-rss2 for all updated information.
If you only want to receive news, like the CE updates from AAVA and nothing else, I would recommend using software that is designed to do just that.
For the PC, I am satisfied with a free software called Feedreader. You can find out more and download here http://www.feedreader.com/. Instructions for its use is very similar to using the My Yahoo. Just copy the link to the “feeds” (http://www.aava.org/php/aava_blog/wp-rss2.php for receiving all new announcements and http://www.aava.org/php/aava_blog/?feed=comments-rss2 for all updated information), click on the
icon on the Feedreader, and paste the link address in the box. You could do this for every news site that offers the links to their feeds to have all your news automatically downloaded to the single software. Feedreader will sound a tone when new “news” is available from any of your sources.
For Macs, I understand that iPodderX (http://ipodderx.com/) is very good but costs $25 and requires OS 10.3.5 or newer. If you would like to try a free software, you can check any of the many listed here:
