2010 AAVA Annual Meeting Speakers
Linda Boggie, DVM, graduated from the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. She completed the IVAS Basic course in 1995 and incorporated acupuncture into her existing small animal hospital practicing both conventional and alternative medicine. She has received additional training in acupuncture from Jeffrey Yuen, a Daoist priest and a recognized teacher of classical acupuncture. She sold her veterinary practice in California in 2002 to pursue additional training in veterinary osteopathy and Chinese herbs, completing a veterinary osteopathy course with Pascal Ervard, DO, and the Chinese herbal course at the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida. In 2003 she moved to The Netherlands and has established a small animal holistic practice that is incorporated into a conventional practice offering more advanced care for small animals. She has lectured for various acupuncture courses in Canada, Finland, Cuba and Spain, as well as lecturing for advanced continuing education seminars or symposiums. She is also involved with teaching herbal medicine at the Qi Academy in Germany. An active member of the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society since 1995, in September of 2004 she assumed the office of President for the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and just recently completed her duties as President. She remains the chair of the IVAS Congress Program Committee, an international congress that occurs annually in various countries.
Mona Boudreaux, DVM, is the founder and owner of A Time To Heal herbal company. She is a graduate of Louisiana State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and is certified in veterinary acupuncture (IVAS), veterinary chiropractic (AVCA), and has a Masters in Medical QiGong (IIMQ). She has studied under Dr. Keshuang Zhao, one of China”s top herbalists, as well as in China and in Albuquerque under Dr. Gary Allen, O.M.D. She is a past President of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture (AAVA) and is active in the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) and The Council of Elders in the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association (AHVMA). Dr. Boudreaux has been practicing complementary and alternative medicine, and lectures nationally to practitioners of complementary, alternative and integrative veterinary medicine since 1994.
Peggy Fleming, DVM, is the owner and operator of Florida Acupuncture Center. She received her DVM from the Univ. of FL in 1981, and has developed a specialty practice in Equine Sports Medicine. In 1988 she became a certified in veterinary acupuncture with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, in 1990 became certified in veterinary chiropractic with the American Chiropractic Society and in 1992 became one of the first certified veterinary homeopaths in the U.S. with the Dr. Fleming became involved in human medicine by attending a 3 year school of Five Element Acupuncture with J.R. Worsely, obtaining a Doctor of Oriental Medicine in 2000, She has attended countless courses in human homeopathy, including a 3 year curriculum with the Dynamis School of Homeopathy studying under Jeremy Sherr, and a two-year curriculum with Paul Herscu at the New England School of Homeopathy. She is the author and co-author of several books, including the Atlas of Equine Acupuncture Loci, Veterinary Medicine Ancient Art to Modern Medicine, and Veterinary Complementary and Alternative Therapies.
Kimberly Henneman, DVM, FAAVA graduated Magna cum laude from Utah State in 1981 and is a 1986 graduate of Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine. She received her IVAS certification in veterinary acupuncture in 1991 and her AVCA certification in veterinary chiropractic, and certification in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine through IVAS in 2000. Dr. Henneman has completed training in both Basic and Advanced classical veterinary homeopathy and has integrated classical homeopathy for both companion and equine patients into her practice since 1994. In 2008, Dr. Henneman completed the requirements of the AAVA’s Advanced Certification Program and was distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture – FAAVA. In 1996, she was a team veterinarian for a World Championship Endurance team for the United Arab Emirates. Dr. Henneman has authored several articles in national equine magazines. She has also been an instructor at the Colorado State Veterinary School’s acupuncture course and has been a regular speaker at the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association’s annual conference, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Western Veterinary Conference and other state and veterinary school conferences.
Jordan Kocen, DVM, MS, is a 1986 graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. He was certified by IVAS in 1990 in Veterinary Acupuncture. He joined SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Center, now located in Fairfax, VA, in 1995 to lead the Holistic Medicine Department. Dr. Kocen and his associate have a 100% alternative medicine practice where they use acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Homeopathy.
David Miller, DVM, graduated from the Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. Between 1989 through 1997, Dr. Miller practiced in equine group practice. He was IVAS certified in 1997 and has had extensive mentoring with Dr. Marvin Cain. Since 1997, Dr. Miller has practiced as a solo practitioner with emphasis in equine sports medicine (i.e. lameness, medicine including performance-related issues) for racing and performance horses utilizing the integration of western and eastern medicine. Dr. Miller is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Victory Gallop, a therapeutic riding program for children.
Louise Morin, VMD, received a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts in 1974 and a VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979. She was an Associate at Delaware Valley Animal Hospital in Fairless Hills, PA from 1979 to 1982 and was co-owner of the Delaware Valley Animal Hospital from 1982-2001. Since 2001, she has been an Associate Veterinarian at VCA Delaware Valley Animal Hospital. She became IVAS certified in 1991, and was an IVAS Examiner for several years. Dr. Morin is a Charter Member of the AAVA and was on the Board of Directors in 2000 and 2001, was a nominating committee member from 1998-2002 and was co-editor of the AAVA newsletter from 2000-2002. She also created the AAVA Pet Memorial Brochure, as is the author of the AAVA Meridian’s “So…What’s the Point”. She made local arrangements and hosted a Gold Bead CE with Terry Durkes in November 2001 and lectured on Acupuncture Treatments in Exotics for IVAS in 1995.
Carla Pasteur, DVM, grew up showing horses in such varied disciplines as reining, saddle seat, and dressage. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in 1991 and opened her own equine exclusive practice. She finished her acupuncture certification from IVAS in 1998, and dedicated herself completely to alternative medicine. Dr. Pasteur is a well known speaker and has lectured at equine events and veterinary conferences both here and abroad. She has been teaching acupuncture at the Chi Institute since 2005. Her current practice focuses on sport horse medicine and biomechanics.
Allen Schoen, DVM, MS, has dedicated his professional career to the advancement of complementary and alternative veterinary medicine. Dr. Schoen is the founder and director of the Center for Integrative Animal Health, a division of Global Communications for Conservation, Inc. (GCC). Dr. Schoen is the co-editor of Complementary and Alternative Veterinary Medicine, Principles and Practice, (Mosby, 1998) and the editor of both Veterinary Acupuncture: Ancient Art to Modern Medicine, (Mosby, 1994, 2nd edition 2001), and Problems in Veterinary Medicine: Veterinary Acupuncture, (Lippencott, 1992). Dr. Schoen is the author of “Kindred Spirits, How the Remarkable Relationship between Humans and Animals Can Transform our Lives” and author of Love, Miracles & Animal Healing. He has published numerous research articles and has been the recipient of a number of research grants. Dr. Schoen is a charter fellow of the American College of Acupuncture. Dr. Schoen maintains a referral practice in large and small animal integrative veterinary medicine.
